TATOURS!

For this project, I wanted to imitate and parody the type of travel influencer videos you see on YouTube. My husband and I have several full-body fursuit costumes, so I used my husband’s character of Tater to be the tour guide. I also chose to give a tour of our city because of the proximity, my knowledge of the area, and the ability to combine the goofy, child-like character of Tater with equally goofy and obviously incorrect “facts” as he gave the tour. Five locations were chosen for their abilities to be both interesting and a bit silly.

For the most part, filming went smoothly but there were quite a few setbacks. The three major issues were scheduling (my husband had to unexpectedly go out of town for work), dealing with the weather (I chose a project filmed outdoors due to my issues with indoor lighting,) and getting usable footage (things that would look good on my camera viewfinder would end up being unusable when I saw it on a computer.) This last one was distressing because even though I filmed multiple takes of each scene, on one or two occasions only one was usable and it was not ideal. I also came across issues with wind and background noise so we had to do some creative workarounds and voiceovers in some of the locations.

 

I did find the photography part easier due to the work from earlier in the semester, and I was happy that no one bothered us while shooting, except to ask to take pictures with Tater. I had feared people would bother us and create issues getting footage. Overall, it was a very fun project to create from beginning to end, and We both had such a great time we decided to do more of these videos in the future for our own enjoyment.
